Spring Creek went down!

Well, there went another week.  I can hardly keep up with time.  We blink and another week passes.  Every thing is going well here.  I am glad to hear that you are going to be a trainer.  We have no doubt, that you will be an awesome trainer and have success in what ever area you serve.  So where did you end up?

We had 3 bball games this week for Erin and Cody.  On Tuesday, Wed. and Friday.  Tuesday they played Battle Mountain, Wed. West Wendover and Friday was Spring Creek.  Erin did not play in Tuesday or Wed. games as her shoulder is still hurting.  We think she might have a shoulder separation, which Dr Gunnel said is a good 4 weeks to heal. But we don't have that kind of time.  So had been going to RPT for therapy but then it gets really tender afterwards.  But on Friday, she wanted to play and she came to the college and Bro. Hiles and I gave her a blessing.  And she played Friday night.  She was 1 for 2 from the field with 2 points.  But she had foul problems.  She had 2 quick ones and had to sit in the 1st qtr and then picked up her 3rd in the 2nd  and didn't play much after that. She picked up her 4th in the 4th and played about the last 4 minutes of the game.

Both boys and girls won their games on Tues. and Wed.. So Cody's team locked up the conference championship, but Erins team had to beat Spring Creek to tie them and would win the conference since a tie breaker goes to who won the last game.  Well the Elko gym was packed.  It was a really fun game as they went back and forth and both fan groups were really in to the game.  You could not hear the buzzer or whistles at all.  Elko was down by 9 points at half, but Elko came out and had a great 3rd quarter and was ahead by 3 points going into the 4th qtr.  The game was close and elko was leading until about 2 minutes to go in the game and spring creek took the lead.  SC was up by 3 points with 1.36 minutes to go.  Deseree Danner a sophomore made a layup and then elko fouled them and they made 1 out of 2 free throws. So we are down by 2.  Elko called time out and set up a play and Danner shot missed the shot and grabbed the rebound and tried to shot again and got fouled with 3.8 seconds to go in the game, Elko is down by 2 points.  She shot her 1st free throw and it bounced around the rim 3 or 4 times and fell in.  Her next shot she made a swish.  SC called time out with 3.8 the game is tied.  SC tried to get the ball in bounds and  Elko was denying the pass and it was getting close to a 5 second violation and the SC girl threw it to half court, Danner intercepted the pass took a couple a dribbles to the basket and went up for a runner shot just inside the 3 point line and hit nothing but net.  The Elko fans went wild and rushed the court and Elko won 50-48.  It was a great game.  Cody's team beat SC by 35 not even close.  So both boys and girls won their league and host the 1st round of regionals Tomorrow here in Elko.  The boys play SC again and girls play Dayton.  If they win we go to Reno this FRiday and Sat for the other playoff games.  The top 2 teams from this weekend will go to Vegas for State next week.  FUN FUN FUN!!

Other than that life is pretty much the same.  Cody is playing about 80 to 85% on his knee.  Better than last month but not 100%. Erin's right shoulder is still sore but she played well for a one armed bandit.  If Elko and SC girls win out this weekend they will play each other this SAt for region champs.

Our refrigerator went out and it was less than 2 years old.  We paid over $1000 for that, it should last longer than 2 years.  We have a repairman coming over to look at it today.  We put the milk and water out side over night and freeze them and then put that in the fridge to help keep things cool.  The freezer part still works.

Any way, I hope you have a great week with your new companion.  We love you and are so grateful you are serving the Lord on a mission.  Friday was senior night and when they announced ERin and her parents, they announced that her future plans after high school were to serve a LDS mission and then go to BYU to finish her schooling.  Whitney welch got her mission call to Phoenix arizona spanish speaking. but she does not leave until June or July.

We love you and pray for you all the time.

Aloooooooha my dear Sis. Nielsen,

Yes!  We beat Spring Creek.  It was quite an amazing game.  Erin had sat out the last 3 games, all within the week, because of her sprained shoulder.  That's what one of the RPT trainers told Erin the night it happened.  That was confirmed by Dr. Gunnell-- the doc that did Cody's surgery.  His son plays for SC and he and his wife(she remembered you from girls camp when you went to their stk. she was super happy to hear you were on your mission) were at the game, and came over and talked to us and he asked how Cody's knee was feeling.  We told him about Erin's shoulder and he said it sounded like an AC sprain.  There's a tendon right under the collar bone (clavical, for us educated folks) and that if you push on it, and it hurts, that's most likely what it is.  Bingo!  He said, it's a common football injury because they'll hit the ground on a tackle and the impact will cause that.  That shows you just how hard she and Anna collided.  Jeff, your old boss, worked on her for 3 therapy sessions, and taped her up before the game and she played against SC. She even started.  It was  the last home regular season game and so when they came out of the locker room for warm-ups, Big Anna came out carrying Sierra Dumas piggyback, and then they also introduced her as an honorary starter.  Dad told Erin they should let her start her last game, and sub her out after the first whistle and let the crowd cheer for her and give her that respect-- like they did for Ciera Dunbar.  They opted for he safer option.  Oh, what a game it was! It was packed in there, the band was playing loud and crazy, (They play the Gangman Style song now, it's a lot of fun), it was totally electric. Erin didn't have her best game, but that's understandable, she did make 2pts. and it's a good thing she did because that all we needed to win.  We came out ahead first in the first quarter, then they came back and were ahead by 8 pts. at halftime.  We came back and in the final seconds we were down by 2, and this fiesty little sophomore on our team got fouled and went to the line.  She was 50% on the line that game, and the first shot bounced 3 times on the rim before falling in.  The next shot swished.  So, now we're tied and I'm  thinking this is going to go to OT, then when SC inbounds the ball, Desiree, that's the girl, steals the ball on a half court throw in and with literally 1 sec. left on the clock, she dribbles and hucks is up and it goes in and we WIN!  The place went wild, it was so fun.  SC was crying, waaaah.  They were stunned.  The student section just left after that, they didn't even stick around for the boys game. They knew that the boys wouldn't give them anything to cheer about.  Our boys won 64-32.  We start regionals tomorrow and the boys will play the bottom seed (SC) and the girls will play Dayton, the bottom seed. Bring it on.  We will be going to Reno this weekend and then Las Vegas for state next weekend.
Yesterday was the Chinese New Year.  We had the traditional Nielsen chinese dinner.  It was good.
Our fridge pooped out.  We had the repairmen come out, and look at it.  One of them looked familiar and he thought I was a teacher.  I recognized him as one of the Cross boys.  I said, I think you went to school with my daughter, Chelsea Nielsen.  He asked what she was doing now.  I was happy to see him working in a good trade job, I was always afraid he was going to end up in jail.  He was such a little trouble maker.  They think they can fix it with replacing the fan and some other thing.
Marcia Clark told me she got a postcard from you.  She said she wrote to all the missionaries serving from our ward and you were the only one that wrote her back so far.  Good job!  I love you and can't wait to hear how you are doing.

Love, Mom........

Have a very Happy Valentines Day!  Did you get your box yet?
