Carly had a birthday!

Hello Elder Nielsen,

We had a pretty good week.  Although BYU got beat badly by Michigan yesterday.  They lost 31-0 and BYU only had 125 total yards in the game.  We could not do anything.  So BYU dropped out of the top 25.  Utah ranked 18th beat Oregon who was ranked 13th at Oregon 62-20.  So now Utah is ranked 10th in the nation. I am not sure what happened to BYU, but they did not show up.

We went to the Elko football game on Friday night and they beat Truckee by 10 points. Truckee pulled within 3 points late in the 4th quarter and they kicked off and Kyron Allen ran it back 90 yards for a TD.  So that helped.  Benton is still on crutches.  I wonder if sometimes he likes to milk the attention.  You were never on crutches and you and Erin always played hurt, where as most kids don't play if they have a hang nail.  When we were at the game, Hooton Fulmer or what ever his name is came down and talked to me and mom.  He said he got his mission call and is going to Washington state on October 28th.  He said to tell you hello.

I have still been very busy at work, trying to get reporting done and get things to the auditors.  I will be glad when I get all my taxes done and get caught up at work. I am still trying to finish Brother Halls taxes and a few others.

Carly had her 11th birthday yesterday and she had 5 girls over to watch a movie and they had snacks, pop and pop corn.  It was kind of simple, but she liked it.  The girls came over after the women's broadcast.

We also need to know you favorite scripture for your missionary plaque.  So let us know what that is.  I think Trevor stone went into the mtc this past week.

I can't think of much else to say on this end.  It was cooling off there for a while and last week it got really hot again.  It was 93 here on Thursday or Friday.

We are so glad you are serving the Lord and a missionary.  Represent him very well.  The people of the Philippines will see the Savior through you.  Work hard, keep those others in your apartment exactly obedient and you will be blessed. When we do our part and are exactly obedient and keep all the commandments, we will be blessed beyond what we could ever pay back.

We love you and pray for you every day.  I think Chica misses you as now she is use to me driving the Trooper and if she is in the front yard, as soon as she hears the Trooper coming she heads to the back yard.  When I am coming around the corner past that yellow house, I will see her heading to the back yard.  What a crazy dog.

Have a super week and work hard. Put your faith in the Lord and you will see miracles.  We got wedding invitations for cassidy Nielsen and Timothy Campbell.  They are getting married on October 8th and 10th respectively. I am not sure if we will make it over there to them or not.  Also, I am not sure if you heard or not, but Elder Scott died this past week as well.  So now there are 3 vacancies in the quorum of the 12.  Conference this next weekend will be great.  You will love General Conference as a missionary.  Many of the messages will be about missionary work. That is all I can think of at this point.

Love

Week 9: Is that right?

Hola Elder Nielsen,

Another week in the books.  When I think back on what happened this past week, I can't think of much.  Tuesday was Sept 15, and I had 5 partnerships and s-corps to finish up, so I was scrambling around trying to get them done and barely made it to the post office 5 minutes before closing.  Monday night I had my class and did not get home until 10:00 pm.

Elko played Fernley at Fernley this week and lost in the last couple minutes of the game.  Fernley scored and went a head and beat Elko.  Fernley is 3-0 this year.  BYU played UCLA last night, UCLA was ranked 10th in the nation.  BYU led the entire game and UCLA scored with 3 minutes to go in the game and went a head by 1 point.  BYU got down to UCLA's 45 yard line with 1 minute left and I thought, ok, here we go again and BYU ended up throwing an interception.  But we had the ball inside their 20  3 different times but we never did score any points.  If we had kicked 1 field goal, we would have won.  But we lost 28 to 27.  But it was still a good showing playing in L.A.  Alabama was ranked 2nd in nation and they got beat by Old Miss.

We had standards night tonight and they were doing a trek kick off for summer of 2016.  They showed some pictures of the last trek and everyone kept commenting about how little and young you looked.  You grew up a lot since then.  It brought back many memories and a good spirit that we experienced on the trek.  Summer will be going so it should be very fun.

DeeRay shot that bull elk on the face of Mt. Timpanogas.  It was one they had pictures of alive and was 1 of their top 5 bulls.  So he was really excited.  Devin Nielsen has been scouting out all the elk in that area for 4 years.  He had most of them named.  His G-2 is 23 inches long.

Summer had a track meet yesterday, but her leg is bothering her and she did not run the mile.  She also had to give a talk in church today, so she was glad that is over.

That is about all I can think of for now.  We love you and are happy you are doing well.  We pray for you all the time.  Keep working hard and being exactly obedient as the posters on your wall says.  Through your obedience and the Holy Ghost, you can be taught all truths and all languages.  So that will help you with your teaching and mastering the language.  Have a super week.  We are happy you had a few investigators make it out to church.

Three little girls at home now

Hola Elder Nielsen,

I can't believe it is time to write another email.  The weeks blow by before you can even blink.  Last Monday was Labor Day and mom and I drove Erin and all her stuff to Twin Falls and met Amber in Twin as that is about the 1/2 way point to Rexburg. We met Amber at the temple and went to Costco for some free samples for lunch, but they were closed.  So we went to Sizzler and had the lunch special where you get a steak, chicken or shrimp plus all you can eat salad bar for 9.99.  It was good and we ate all the salad bar items and brought our steak and fries home for the kids.  We left them home as we thought they would not want to be in the car all day.  We left around 7:30 and got back around 3.  I gave Erin her father's blessing before we left that morning.

I finally finished cutting up the antelope yesterday.  The 15th of september is on Tuesday and I have about 5 partnerships and corporate tax returns to get out before then, so I have been working late every night until 8 or 9.  I have only completed 1 corp and still have 4 more to go before Tuesday, so I  am starting to sweat bullets.

It warmed back up this week and got back into the low 90's.  Last week was kind of cooler.  I love the fall weather as it start to get cool in the nights and warm during the days.  Friday night Elko played Sparks in Sparks and it was on channel 21.  So we were able to watch that game.  Elko won 30 to 0.  It was a very ugly game with penalty flags on almost every play.  I think Elko had 18 penalties.  Benton hurt his knee on Elko's 2nd or 3rd possession.  He kind of hyper extended it a little.  So he did not play the rest of the game.  I have not heard how bad it was.  They paper also said Pengelley got hurt in the game, but I did not see that happen.  I saw him walking around on Sat morning and he looked fine.  He has been going to the gym to work out at 5:30 in the morning.  He has developed some big arms.  We see him when we are going to play bball.

Sat. Summer had her 1st track meet and took 1st in the mile again.  She was only 5 seconds off her PR, but she has a pulled quad. muscle and it has been hurting her.  She said she pulled it doing the hurdles.

On Saturday we had a ward activity/ dinner. It was pot luck and members were suppose to bring a dish from their mission, or heritage, etc.  But only about 30 - 40 people showed up.  BYU was playing Boise State who was ranked 20th in the nation in Provo.  We could not find a place to watch it, so I was listening to the game on KSL through my ipad.  BYU was down 24 to 21 with 49 seconds to go in the game and we had the ball on Boise States 45 yard line with a 4th down and 7 yards.  Mangum through it to the end zone and a 5'8" guy from BYU jumped up and caught it and we went ahead.  Then the Boise got the ball back and that BYU player that succored punched that guy in the bowl game last year intercepted a pass and ran it back for a tough down.  So BYU ended up winning 35-24.  BYU was down by 10 points entering the 4th quarter.  They are now calling him "Miracle Mangum".  I believe we play UCLA this next week who is ranked 13th in the nation.

This morning we drove out to Ruby Valley to hear Vivian Neff's farewell talk.  She did a great job and will be a great missionary, we are sure of that.  Then we came home and made it to Brandon Jenkins farewell talk in the 1st ward.  He did a great job and will be a great missionary as well.  We went over to their house afterwards and ate some food.  It was good.  I guess Makayla  Jenkins is engage and getting married in Oct. to a member of the church and they are getting married in the temple since it has been a year since she was baptized.  So that is great.

We also had our stake general priesthood meeting this evening and that was good.  Addie said something funny tonight, she had your ipod and said that she was going to watch something Sunday appropriate on the ipod.  So I said ok, and she was using that voice activated feature on the ipod saying "Sunday Appropriate" to see what she could watch.  I got a good laugh.  The ipod was not smart enough to figure out what was Sunday Appropriate.

Well we hope you have a great week.  We love you and always pray for you.  Keep working hard and being obedient and the Lord will bless you in everything.

Love,

DAD

First Week of School

Hola Elder Nielsen,

It was good to get your email and hear that you are doing well.  It sounds like the language is coming along.  Monday was the 1st day of school and I had my accounting class which started Monday evening as well.  So I was busy trying to get every thing up to date and prepared for that class.  Adelaide has afternoon kindergarten at Mountain View and Hartman is in her class.  She seems to be adjusting well.  She lost one of her bottom teeth and another one is loose.

I don't remember what happened the rest of the week, but we were busy.  I have been cutting up the antelope in the evenings.  My buck was about an inch bigger than yours.  Hernold called me on Friday and He took an antelope that was 17 inches tall, and scores about 78 inches.  Chelsea emailed me a picture of a buck her friends husband shot and it scored 91 1/8 inches.  It was huge.  Utah played Michigan in football in utah Thursday and Utah won by one touchdown.  We went to the Elko vs Wooster football game on Friday and Elko won 42-0.  Benton played well the 1st quarter and had about 7 or 8 tackles but he did not do much the rest of the game.  They have him playing strong side linebacker and then some times they will switch him to the position he played last year.  They have him playing Jason Wilson's position on offense, but he did not do much there either.  Dustin Baum played well.  He had an interception and should of had 2 others, but dropped them.  Pengelly played the best, he had a great game.  He had 3 carries for 235 yards rushing.  One for 76 yards and he got run down from behind inside the 10 yard line.  He had a 80 yard run for a TD and another 84 yard run for a TD.  He also played very solidly on defense.  It was a nice cool weekend.

The kids were out of school on Friday and we went to the Parade.  I worked, but just took off for the parade.  On Sat. morning we went to the fair to see the animals, and then BYU played Nebraska on national TV.  That is the game that Darhl and Joann drove out to Nebraska to see as they had tickets.  Nebraska went ahead early on 14-0 and then taysom hill scored 2 rushing touch downs.  He went out for a few plays and went into the locker room and the backup quarterback played.  But Hill came back and did well, they said he had a sprained foot.  He threw another touchdown and BYU kicked a field goal and it was 24-14 at half and BYU was in control and had basically taken the 88,000 fans out of the game.  But in the 3rd quarter, Hill threw an interception and NE ran in back to about the 13 yard line and they scored 2 or 3 plays later.  And mother mo turned and Nebraska had all the momentum.  Hill went out again in the 3rd quarter and he was done for the game.  Nebraska scored again and now was ahead 28 to 24 going into the 4th quarter.  The backup quarterback was from Eagle Idaho, the Boise area and had just got home from his mission to Chile 3 months ago named Mangum.  But he drove them down the field and they kicked a field goal, so BYU was down 27-28 with about 8 minutes to go.  NE, had a long drive that took a bunch of time off the clock and NE missed the field goal.  BYU got the ball and could not move it and had to punt.  But then the got the ball back again with about 49 seconds to go in the game.  BYU had the ball on about the 25 yard line.  The QB scrambled and got about 12 yards and ran out of bounds but took lots of precious time off.  The next play they handed the ball off and the guy ran to about the 50 yard line and BYU used their last time out with about 13 seconds to go.  They threw another pass, but the got caught it out of bounds, so BYU had to go about 50 yards with 1 second remaining in the game.  They were heading into a 20 mph head wind.  So NE called time out and BYU drew up the play.  BYU has 3 receivers over 6'5'' this year.  So Mangum took the snap and scrambled around for a bit to buy some time and threw it as far as he could and Mitch Mathews the 6'6'' guy from BYU caught it right at the goal line and fell inside the endzone to win the game 33-28.  Bronco was running around the field like a wild man.  It was like the miracle bowl.  But the report after the game was taysom hill had a broken foot and was out for the rest of the season.  So that is 3 seasons he has been hurt for season ending injuries.  That is too bad.  He was playing great as always.  He just can't seem to avoid the injuries.

Today was fast Sunday and we invited Vivian's family over for dinner since they were all at the fairgrounds.  It was fun, mom made beef layered florentine.  The kids were all playing together and they enjoy one anothers company.  Vivian goes into the MTC in 10 days.

Tomorrow morning we will drive Erin and meet Amber half way for her to go to school.  It seems like we just got her home and she is off to school again.

We hope you are staying cool.  Keep praying, and working hard and being obedient in every way and the Lord will bless you.  We pray for you daily.  Have a super week.

Love Dad
