Hola Hermana Nielsen,
How is every thing this past week? We hope you had a great week. This week you will pass your 1/2 way point. Work hard and enjoy these next 9 months as they will go by very quickly.
Carly started PAL basketball so she has practice this past week. Carly also went to Reno with Indar to play in a soccer tournament there with the DeArietas. Her team won both of their games. Elko's girls soccer team has lost its first 2 games of the year to Truckee and south Tahoe.
Elko football beat Sparks on Friday night 50-13 or something like that. It was 28-6 at the end of the 1st quarter and they tried to play the 2nd string most of the 4th quarter. Cody did well. Nothing extra ordinary. Amber stayed to watch his football game and then she left Sat. morning to go to BYUI. We will miss her. It was fun having her around. We went to bed at midnight and cody and I got up at 3:15 am to go elk hunting with Bob Hayes. We saw a few elk with a spike trying to cross the road into the conservancy - no tresspassing area, and about 150 elk on the property which we could not hunt. We drove around and checked guzzlers in the area and a little fresh elk sign, but nothing was bugleing. It was very hot still and I think most of the elk are where we can't hunt. We did not see or hear anything except for where we could not hunt. Bob had been in the areas where he took us last year and said there were all kinds of elk in those areas. But not this year. We hiked 15.38 miles for the day, but they were easy miles. It is still fun just getting out and seeing new country. His hunt ends tomorrow for elk, so I am not sure if we are going to make it out again or not.
Yesterday was a good day. Ozzy Moreno got baptized yesterday by Jacob Conklin, but Cody and I were out hunting, so we missed it. Yesterday in church, I was able to confirm him a member of the church, and in our Priesthood meetings, Cody was able to ordain him to the Priesthood to an office of Priest. There was Jacob, Cody, Brandon Jenkins and Jason Wilson and Ozzy. We went into the bishops office and Bishop Bryce asked Ossie who he would like to ordain him, and Ossie had asked me earlier in the day to do that, but Bishop asked, "Would you like Cody to ordain you?" Ozzy said yes and Bishop explained to Cody how to do it and those 4 priests with Cody being the voice ordained him to the priesthood. No Melchizedek priesthood holders participated. It was a pretty neat experience that I had never witnessed before. Cody did a really good job. Then last night, we had our stake priesthood meeting and President Lewis kept talking about that incident the entire evening. He said it was monumental and shows the power and ability of the youth of this church, the future leaders. Any way, it was really neat and very special for all those young men.
I have about 4 tax returns I need to get out today, 3 of them are mom and dads estate returns. So I am going to be scrambling around trying to get that all done. I also teach my accounting class tonight.
This next Sat. is our stake temple day and we are going over and the youth are going to do baptisms. Summer wants to find family names to do.
We love you and hope you have a great week.
Love
Dad
Dearest Hermanita Nielsen,
This week sure flew by! Things are going and going fast. Summer has been going to Adobe track practice this last week and then I pick her up and take her to Indar practice. They have her running the mile and the 100yd dash? I guess that's one one way to see if she is a sprinter or a miler. She likes going to AMS, but she says she hears a lot of cussing there and it bothers her. Carly started PAL basketball practice last week too, so we are running around a lot. They are both liking Indar although they say they have to run a lot, and they don't like that so much.
Northside had their Open House last week and I went with Carly. She has Mrs. Powers this year, but she got remarried so her name is Mrs. Vierra now. I love to tell all the teachers that you are on a mission and that you are doing so well.
Elko had their first home game against Sparks on Friday night and we beat them 50-13, it was a good win. Cody said it was rough out there and that they play like its street ball. He did well, nothing big for the highlight reel, just good solid play from him. Whitney came with the Jonas' and sat a few benches up from us, so I climbed up and talked to her for the last quarter. She is still sweet little Whit and it wasn't uncomfortable or anything. I just asked her how everything... work, school plans and things were going. She said she is going to quit Spoon Me because she is now working full days at the Barrick office and its killing her to work the nights at SM. She was accepted to Boise State, which she is really excited about, but if she can't get some financial help she would end up having to pay out of state tuition of about 20,000. She won't know for sure if she will get some money until Nov. so, maybe if she doesn't get it, maybe she will reconsider BYU-I.
Carly went with the DeArriettas to Reno and played two league games with the Indar. She played forward and she said she did well, but she is a passer, so she passed all her scoring opportunities to her team mates.
Ozzy Moreno got baptized on Sat. by Jacob Conklin. It was really good, Ozzy looked really happy. Cody and Dad were hunting, so he wasn't able to go. Dad confirmed him on Sun. and Cody ordained him to the priesthood. The circle was full of priests--Cody, Jacob Conklin, Jason Wilson, and Brandon Jenkins. Goood Gooood!
We had a ward talent show on Sat. night and Summer played "Swanee River" she did fine-- wasn't perfect, but who cares.
Hope you have a fabulous week, Love you , Mom
PS Amber left for college on Sat. morn. It was hard to see her go, but she needed to and she will enjoy that.
