Magandang gabi,
We received an email from your mission president with the pictures of you and your new comp and with you and your President and his wife. We are not sure when your p-day is, so I am writing this in case it is Monday. That way you will have a letter from us.
Last weekend was fun. We got up around 4 am to do the paper route and then showered and got ready to go to Brigham City UT for Nathan Nielsen's sealing in the temple there. We thought we had to get on the road by 7 am to make it in time. We were all ready and packed and ready to go and I went out to start the truck which was parked behind the suburban and it would not start. I tried a few times and the battery eventually died. So now we have a dead truck behind the suburban and can't get the suburban out to go. We tried jump starting the truck and that did not work. Mom asked if we could take the van. I did not want to be stranded half way across the desert. We were going north of Oasis to Snowville, ID on the back roads where we went with bob hayes on your elk hunt. It is a lonely 2 lane highway and I did not trust the van. So we tried moving all the junk in the garage to see if I could some how manuver the suburban around and get it past the truck. We tried about a 30 point turn back and forth, but the front end of the suburban was going to hit the wall in the garage by the living room. So we had to back out the truck, where the back end is past the side walk and we finally got the suburban out. Then we tried to push the truck back into the driveway and we could not budge it an inch. So now it is 8:11 am and I wanted to be on the road at 7. Well we were going over to Hermana Botts on Sunday any way, so we tried to make it. I was going about 85 across that 2 lane highway north of the Great salt lake. We were north of antelope island.
We were flying and we got to Brigham City about 15 minutes before teh sealing and we thought, great we are going to make it. We did not have directions to the temple, but we could see it so we were just driving towards the temple. We came to some railroad tracks and of course there was a train moving about 5 mph. I could have walked faster. We we waited there for probably 10 minutes and then the train finally passed and we hurried up to the temple and they were waiting for us there. When mom and erin went in, they asked are you the folks from Elko, we said yes, and they hurried us right up to the sealing room where everyone was waiting. We got there right at 1 pm utah time when it was starting. The sealing was very nice. The sealer was from Malad and did a great job. Nate's wife is a farm girl from a little town in northern utah called Corinne. She seemed like a very nice girl, a return missionary, etc. The sealing only took like 20 minutes and we were out taking pictures outside the temple. Summer just watched adelaide and Carly on the temple grounds. Then we all went over to Maddox's, a nice resturant and had a nice lunch. It was really good. Amber had to work that morning and she traveled down from rexburg and met us after lunch. We went to their reception in Corinne and it was a very pleasant evening. Afterwards, we went to visit Dirk and Pam Bleazard and thought perhaps we could stay with them as it is closer to Hermana Botts place in Kaysville, instead of driving all the way back to Sharon's place. Well we stayed there until like 10:30 pm and mom did not feel right about asking them if we could stay, so we left and drove to Hermana bott's place trying to find it in the dark. We could not find the street, Amber and Erin was following us in the Camry, so we just found a vacant lot area, and pulled over and slept in the car. Or tried to sleep in the car. We did that when we were in Wyoming on our elk hunt. So we thought it would be good for the other younger kids to experience that. We woke up Sunday morning and we were only about 3 blocks from Hermana Bott's church, Erin could see the steeple, so we drove to the church and went inside the bathrooms to freshen up and get our church clothes on. We went to the 9 am sacratmeeting since we were there and then Hermana Bott's sacratmeeting was at 11 am. Both meeting were really nice. In the 9 am meeting, a lady spode who Connie recognized and she use to be in our ward in Elko. I did not recognize her from Adam, but she recognized me and came down and talked to us after the meetings. We went to Hermana Bott's house after their meeting and they had some food and a good little get together. It was nice to meet Hermana Bott in person. She and Erin are really close and we loved her before we met her. Erin's mission president and his wife were there, so it was nice to meet them. Afterwards, we traveled back to Elko and got home around 7 or 7:30 pm.
On Tuesday and wednesday I had to travel to Winnemucca to meet with students. It was nice to get home and be done from our travels for a while. In Utah we were crossing the street and had to push the botton, so we could cross and Addie asked if she could push it again. And I said, sure, you can push it as many times as you like. It would make a beep sound each time she pushed it. And she asked me, Dad, do you know everything about life? I answered in the affirmative, of course.
Yesterday, saturday, I made some jerky and tried to would on Amber's car. Some one broke the window mecanism in the back and the window would not stay up at all. So Amber and I tore the back door panel off and I put a board in there to make shift it to stay up. I am not sure how it will hold up, but it has to be better than having the window down the entire time, especially with winter coming up. Then I replaced her brake light as that was out as well. Erin and Amber spent most of the week watching family videos and laughing at Chelsea. They would video tape it with their phone or ipod and send it to chelsea. They were laughing and rolling on the ground the entire time.
Bishop Perkins in the 4th ward is moving to Damonte Ranch area in REno, so this is his last sunday and they will have to replace him. I think that is about 5 bishops they have replace in 1.5 years in the stake presidency.
Leigha Zisler's mom came in to see me on Friday. She said Leigha had not heard from you yet, so I told her where she could go to read your blog that chelsea is keeping for you and gave her you email address. She is going to college at Boise STate. We visited for about 1/2 hour. I told her you only have an hour on the computer and so you don't have alot of time to write or respond to emails.
Jacob Conklin's mom came over thursday night and asked if I could write Jacob a fatherly letter and try to encourage him. I guess he was feeling inadequate or missing home and was discouraged. I had already written him a little note replying to his letter letting him know he had your email address incorrect. Then President Esplin told me today that he had come home Friday night. So that is not good. We are not sure all the details, but we can just love him and pray for him.
We are having the family that watches Chica over for dinner tonight. (Mel's parents) To pay them back for watching Chica so much. I guess, Chica was stealing their shoes as well. So it is not just us. She steals everyones shoes.
Jason Wilson's farewell is next sunday and we will go to that.
Well, we hope you are enjoying your new companion. Remember to be obedient in every thing. We love you and pray for you daily. Keep working and studying hard. Represent the Lord the best you can. Do everything that he would day and do.
Love,
Dad
Dear Elder Nielsen,
Where do I start? So much has happened since I last emailed you. We went to Nate's sealing in the Brigham City Temple last weekend -- that was an adventure. We got up and did the papers that Saturday morning and we were doing really well with our time schedule. We figured we should leave about 7am, and at about 7:10 we were loaded and ready to go (Pretty good huh?) Dad had to back the truck out of the driveway, so that we could back the Suburban out of the garage because one was behind the other. He goes to start the truck and... dead battery. We tried to jump start it with the van...still dead. So, Dad is getting a little "frustrated" at this point, and says we aren't going to be able to go now. Then he got the idea that maybe we can get the Burb out by angling out around the truck. So, we quickly start moving some of the junk in the garage to make room for the car to back out. It takes about 10 up and backs, each time moving a little bit more of an angle toward the other side of the driveway. Finally, after a lot more "frustration" with us because our lack of instructional communication skills regarding backing trapped vehicles, we were finally able to get that beast out of there! We let the truck roll back about 4 ft. and that helped with getting some extra clearance. Dad wanted to see if we could push the truck back up where it was before, and I knew it was going to be too much weight for us with out the Code-Man's muscles. We put Summer in the driver's seat and gave her instructions on how to put it in Neutral and how to brake (Poor girl had a lot of pressure on her) It didn't work, it was way to much ton-age for us and it ended up rolling all the way back almost in the street. There wasn't much we could do, so we just left it there with the truck bed blocking the sidewalk. It was nearly 8:15am by then and Dad wasn't even sure we should still go (Oh, ye of little faith). We went anyway, and its a good thing we did, because we did make it with 5 minutes to spare! Dad was flying 85 mph across the cut-off highway, and that put us back in good time and we pulled into Brigham City at 12:40pm and we were supposed to be at the temple at 12:30 --not bad, except just as we were approaching the city we had to stop at a railway crossing and wait for a train for 10 minutes! It was a really beautiful sealing and Nate's wife is perfect for him. They even look kind of alike. Dee Ray was telling us they met at a church basketball game and she was keeping score-- He said there were 5 guys out on the court and out of those 5, she chose Nate?!
Afterwards, we killed some time before the wedding breakfast by going across the street and walking around inside the Brigham City Tabernacle which was built in the late 1800's. It was a really neat old building and looked kind of like the Salt Lake Tabernacle inside. On the way back to cross the street, Dad showed Adelaide how to push the button for the crossing signal, and she turned to him and said, "Do you know everything ...about life?" We laughed and assured her, he did not. The lunch was really good. It was held at Maddox Restaurant, which is a pretty famous place. Amber met us at the temple grounds and then she followed us to the reception in Corinne, UT , which was about 10 min. away in a little neighboring town. It was a nice reception outside in a backyard--super casual and country-cute. I could hardly walk because I had banged my little toe on a chair in the temple sealing room when I was trying to move between the rows.
We stopped by the Bleazards house on the way back to Sharon's house where we were going to stay for the night, but we thought it would be much for convenient to stay the night at the Bleazard's since they lived a lot closer to the Botts, and that way were wouldn't have to travel back this way. Well, they didn't offer and I didn't ask and by the time we left Sharon wasn't answering our texts (it was about 11:30pm) and Dad didn't want to wake her up banging on the door, so he told us we were just going to have to sleep in the car that night. (I think he was a little "frustrated" with me) So, that's what we did. We found a grocery store that was still open and went in and used the bathroom and then brushed our teeth in the parking lot using our water bottles and spitting into the planters. We found a neighborhood in Kaysville that had dark cul-de-sac with no houses on it, and we all bedded down in our cars. We only had one blanket and Carly used it. It was not the most restful, but it was one of those experiences we will laugh about for years to come. We found out we were only 1 block from the church that Hermana Bott would be speaking at. We used the church bathroom to get ready, and then decided to go to the ward at 9 am, rather than just wait around for the Bott's ward at 11am. Coincidentally, a sister speaking in that ward used to live in Elko. She looked familiar to me and the more she talked I figured out who it was--Jackie Leishman, she and her husband and two kids lived in Elko about 7 or 8 years ago for about 18 mos. She even remembered us! Then we met Hermana Bott! and she did a great job on her talk and we got to meet Erin's mission pres. afterward. We had a nice lunch at the Botts, and then we headed for home. Adelaide really wanted to go in Camry with Amber and Erin, so we reluctantly let her. Erin told us on the way home she asked Addie,"What's your deepest, darkest secret?" She told her she didn't want to tell her, because she might get mad. After a little persuasion, she finally confessed, "Erin, I didn't miss you when you were on your mission". I don't think she expected that!
We had a great week with Amber here. One day she and Erin started pulling out old CDs that they had music from HS burned onto and that brought back memories. We found unlabled DVD's that had family videos on. We watched for about 2 hrs. they were hilarious! One was of Chelsea playing volleyball and she totally misses the ball when its being served to her and it ends up about hitting her in the head! Erin recorded it on her Ipod and sent it to her and she had a good laugh about it. We had the Smith Family for dinner tonight (Mel- Dog's family) that was really fun to get to know them better. Tomorrow Carly and Adelaide go to Dr. Alleman's office to collect their prize for winning the Summer Reading Program Coloring Contest. 2nd year in a row for Carly! They get 25.00 check and new shades. I told Carly to pick out a Big pair of sunglasses this year.
Well, thats my news. I am looking forward to hearing yours! We got an email and picture from you President. Your Comp. looks like a great guy. Have a great week, I love you, Mom
